WHY in the news - "Watertown, A Healthy Place to Grow"

The Watertown Healthy Youth Initiative (WHY) is a community coalition made up of members representing different community sectors. We identify specific concerns affecting our youth and organize/promote ways the community can work together to make Watertown a healthy and safe place for our youth. Our mission is to raise the awareness of our parents and community members through educating and providing resources; and by working with existing community businesses and organizations.

Sweet Deceptions Town Hall on Gateway Drugs

Human Service Agency's community event "Sweet Deception" held on March 27th, focused on the discussion of underage drinking, vaping and other gateway drugs, as well as how alcohol and tobacco companies target youth and young adults. This event was sponsored by the Watertown Healthy Youth and Watertown Tobacco Free coalitions. Sam Mooney, who has been sober 8 years, shared his story of addiction and recovery. Local organizations and resources were available to answer questions and provide resources to over 125 attendees. This was the 3rd community meeting that has been held since March 2017. Purpose of these meetings is to inform community members of the local trends and social issues that are impacting our young people. It�s important for parents and concerned community members to understand what influences our youth, and to be open to talk about the dangers and consequences of drinking, vaping and other substances.

Town Hall Addresses Drug Abuse and Misuse

WHY Town Hall on Drug Use

The Watertown Healthy Youth (WHY) coalition hosted a community meeting on Prescription Drugs, Binge Drinking and Illegal Drug Use on October 23rd at LATI. The program featured an expert panel and a local community member, Lucas, speaking on his addiction and recovery.
