ATCO Admission Criteria

Applicant has a developmental disability which prevents him/her from gaining competitive employment or living independently without formal support services.

    A "developmental disability" is a severe chronic disability of a person which:

    1. Is attributable to a mental or physical impairment or combination of mental and physical impairments;

    2. Is manifested before the person attains age twenty-two;

    3. Results in substantial functional limitations in three or more of the following areas of major life activity: Self care, receptive and expressive language, learning, mobility, self-direction, capacity for independent living, economic self-sufficiency, and reflects the person's need for services and supports which are lifelong or extended duration and are individually planned or coordinated.

    - Applicant must be a least 16 years of age or older

    - Applicant exhibits a willingness to participate in the various training programs offered by ATCO and the Human Service Agency as a whole

    - Applicant has a current psychological examination

    - The Application for admission to ATCO has been completed

    - In the opinion of the Admissions Committee, the individual can benefit from services available (the Admissions Committee reviews the individual for admission without regard to religion, ethnic origin, sex or personal financial status)

    - An adequate and appropriate funding source regarding fees for services has been identified

    - Definite and suitable housing arrangements are available for the individual

    - Prior to the applicant's start date, the applicant must have a completed physical, as well as a tuberculosis screening, Hepatitis B screening and a current speech evaluation.  Other information will also be requested at the time
